Focus on Quality – Meeting the ISO 9001:2015 Standard

Quality and customer service have been our priorities for 51 years. We decided now is a good time to get a certificate reflecting the care we have always put into our products and find new ways to improve our quality along the way. It will take time to convert our current system to meet the ISO 9001:2015 standard, but we expect to have our certification by this time next year.

What is ISO 9001:2015?

ISO 9001:2015 is an international standard for Quality Management Systems (QMS). Quality Management deals with a company’s processes for ensuring that the products and services they provide consistently meet customer needs and provide a high level of customer satisfaction. It provides a framework for companies to follow the Plan, Do, Check, Act cycle to monitor the effectiveness of processes. This newest version of the ISO 9001 standard, released in 2015, is different from previous versions in that it places a strong emphasis on risk-based decision making.

Why does it matter?

Without a quality product or service, a business will not last very long. A QMS is a useful tool for determining areas where processes can be improved, and then acting to make improvements.

A QMS is useless if it is not effective in increasing the quality of a company’s products or services. One way to make sure a QMS is effective is to align it with the requirements laid out in the ISO 9001:2015 standard. This includes requirements for continual improvement. In other words, a company cannot remain certified if it does not continually improve its processes.
